Injectables, such as the JUVÉDERM® family of fillers our Chesterfield-based team provides, are a quick, convenient way to make the face look softer and more youthful. Although fillers require less preparation and recovery time than more intensive procedures, such as surgery, and they are known for causing minimal discomfort, they are a temporary solution. That said, fillers aren’t as high maintenance as people may assume they are, but patients should be aware that repeat sessions will be necessary to maintain their results. The frequency of these treatments depends on the filler and the targeted area, as different filler gels metabolize and absorb at different rates. Patients also sometimes go in for touch-ups to enhance their original results. Finding time to get to a follow-up appointment can be a challenge, especially if you have a busy schedule. Here are some ways to increase longevity and extend filler results between visits:

1. Combine Fillers with BOTOX®

When filler is applied to a part of the face that you move a lot when making facial expressions, the effects tend to wear off faster. BOTOX® keeps key facial muscles relaxed so your skin lies smoother and fillers last longer.

2. Reduce Sun Exposure

To protect your skin against lines, wrinkles, and sunspots, take sun protection seriously each day by avoiding heavy sun exposure, applying broad-spectrum sunscreen, and wearing hats and sunglasses to cover up.

3. Maintain Hydration

Young-looking skin is supple and soft. To stave off fine lines, rough skin, and dullness from dehydration, drink lots of water and use an ultra-hydrating moisturizer each day.

4. Incorporate Retinol

Boost your usual skincare routine by adding retinol-based products to kickstart your skin’s natural collagen production.

5. Watch Your Diet

Too much refined sugar can accelerate aging, and consuming high-sodium foods makes your face look puffy and swollen. Avoid these as much as possible.

6. Don’t Over-Exercise

Working out too much possibly makes fillers dissolve at a faster rate. Certainly stay active, but be aware that extreme calorie-burning can take a toll on JUVÉDERM® results. Consider timing your treatments to not coincide with triathlons.

7. Be Gentle on Your Face

After getting fillers, avoid massages, deep facials, heavy eyeglasses, and any pressure that jostles the treatment area. This allows the gel to “settle in” and last longer.
