Skin lesions are a part of the skin that has an abnormal growth or appearance compared to the skin around it. They may be something you are born with or something you acquire. They can be benign or severe, generalized or localized, symmetrical or irregular.

Primary skin lesions are either present from birth or develop over your lifetime. They are associated with a specific cause or can be a reaction to either internal or external environments.

Secondary skin lesions are the result of irritated or manipulated primary skin lesions.

Most skin lesions are harmless, but some can be warnings of skin cancer.
